Francisco de Bobadilla had organised this feast as there was a suitable need for celebration. The natives were broken on the back of Pedrarias’ blade, and it was the feast of San José, husband to San Maria, mother of Jesus. Bobadilla was a Catholic of deep faith, the cross around his neck second only to the crucifix on his armour. He had arranged plenty of drinks, hunted the roasted pig himself, and sought out several barrels of wine to reward his men. As Spaniards wanted to do, particularly men of the sword, Francisco had set the table quite close together, there would not have been enough space otherwise. Each man was encouraged and expected to talk to those beside him; fraternity was life to a knight.
He took a moment to look over his feast as it got underway. In his hand he held a simple wooden cup, one that Jesus himself may have drunk from. Part of him wondered if Christ really saw as far as the New World, but he quickly shrugged the question off his mind, of course the Lord was ever watchful.
He cleared his throat in preparation for his speech, at nearly sixty-five, he was no young man any more.
“Orden de Calatrava, soldados, and friends, welcome to the first feast of Medina del Oro! Raise your cup, for tonight we give thanks to San José. San José is the sacred protector of the Universal Church, fathers, workers, and a happy death. Surely with word of the return of our noble Gobenador Pedrarias it is to him we should thank.”
He waited for his little feast to raise their cups and then led them in a quick Amen.
“I bid you welcome, and each of you are welcome indeed. We have tamed but a sliver of this land and there is much more work to be done for a good man is well busy; and I know each of you are the best I could have chosen.”
He looked down the table and nodded as they looked back at him.
“So eat, drink, tell your tales and enjoy the spoils of Medina del Oro, not hogar, but bastante acogedor”
He lifted his cup once again and then drank, knowing his little gathering would be thankful for the quick and not overly drawn speech.

Mostly title, 'cause I did that, and I'm kinda upset with myself. It is going to be a cool encounter though, and I am proud of it.
The campaign is set 5 years after a civil war in where the Tyrannical King was killed in battle, but the campaign deals with that same King escaping the underworld a-la The Returned from Theros, and the party are going to hunt him down and drag him back to Tartarus (Mythological Tartarus, not Great Wheel Tartarus). To do this, their first stop is the battlefield where the King died- I made a whole map of this floodplain with a few small rivers crossing it that is littered with ancient Barrows that, if my players are dumb enough to try to loot them, are full of Tolkien-style Barrow-Wights with Wight (MM) and Deathlock Wight (MToF) statblocks.
After making most of the map, I actually planned out the course of the battle, why the armies fought here specifically, how the terrain changed the course of the battle, what scars that left on the landscape, and how the rebel forces won, building on worldbuilding details I'd already put together. Hell, two of my party of four fought in this battle in their backstories (absolutely something I made happen intentionally, knowing they'd end up here), and I now know where they were on the map, what they were doing, and how they contributed to the fighting. I'm about to give them a magic staff that lets them recall memories with perfect clarity, and if they use it to remember the battle, I'm ready for that.
I drew up old fortifications on the map, realized the trench the rebels dug was right next to a river, so after 5 years of neglect, it's been eroded into a stagnant, swampy mess of a shoreline, and then added to that that the rebels buried a bunch of their enemies in that trench, to give them a burial, so the swampy mess just has a pile of human bones poking out of the mud that reinforces the campaign's themes about the half-healed wounds of the war being reopened.
It's poignant and sad and I think it's genuinely strong storytelling, and all of that good shit is on the left half of a battlemap that's twice the size it needs to be, and took me multiple days of my Spring Break to make. They will never set foot on half of this map. I mapped out every freaking barrow, even if they're mostly copy-pasted, and they're going to open probably one of them, the one that's plot-relevant, because someone hid the King's corpse inside.
Sorry for the vent, I just needed to express that mix of pride at my accomplishment and nagging frustration that I made it more difficult than it needed to be.

Hélé Béji
Dans une tribune au « Monde », l’écrivaine franco-tunisienne Hélé Béji réagit à l’arrestation, en pleine rue, le 23 février, de Chaima Issa, membre du Front de salut national, qui regroupe les opposants au « coup d’Etat » du président Kaïs Saïed.
Je suis triste, accablée qu’un gouvernement présidé par une femme (une première dans l’histoire moderne de l’Afrique du Nord) ait osé emprisonner une autre femme, Chaima Issa, avec ses compagnons d’infortune, pour avoir exercé les libertés que la révolution du 14 janvier 2011 en Tunisie lui avait gagnées.
Cette avancée majeure avait ouvert la promesse d’un nouvel imaginaire démocratique, où les femmes de toutes conditions, cheveux lâchés ou cheveux cachés, avaient défié le fanatisme de l’extrémisme religieux avec autant de courage qu’elles avaient combattu l’absolutisme séculier. Cette avancée semble aujourd’hui détruite.
Chaima Issa a la pétulance des femmes de Méditerranée, qui témoigne d’une énergie autre que simplement politique. Nombreuses sont celles qui, sans être engagées politiquement, ont subi l’oppression séculaire sous toutes ses formes, et l’ont combattue dans leur vie quotidienne, pour se délivrer non seulement de la domination masculine, mais de quelque pouvoir existant dont les maux sont l’injustice, l’inégalité, la maltraitance, l’ignorance. Au-delà de l’émancipation domestique des femmes, Chaima Issa défend l’œuvre des libertés publiques accomplie par la révolution.
Violence illégitime
Chaima, jeune femme moderne, semblable à tant d’autres, pleine d’entrain, ses beaux cheveux châtains tombant sur son cou rehaussé par les couleurs vives de ses écharpes, qui partage avec ses copines des textos sur les crèmes hydratantes ; Chaima, si sensible aux violences contre les droits humains, mais insensible aux intimidations ; Chaima, dont le désir démocratique a la séduction intrépide de sa vaillance, persuadée que l’air de liberté et de franchise qu’elle répand autour d’elle peut gagner les foules ; Chaima, dont la lutte est au-delà du féminisme, fidèle à la magnanimité séculaire des femmes, qui englobe aussi les hommes dans leur passion démocratique ; Chaima, figure joyeuse et téméraire des rassemblements pacifiques et de la dissidence antitotalitaire, a été arrêtée en pleine rue, assaillie par un brusque convoi de brigades sécuritaires, capturée dans une mise en scène qui fait la joie maligne des réseaux sociaux, digne des jeux d’arène de la Rome antique, où des chrétiens étaient jetés aux fauves pour amuser les foules.
Chaima Issa n’est pas seulement une prisonnière d’opinion. Son insolence, sa résonance, qui grandit dans le lâche silence des hommes (hormis ses camarades du Front de salut national), sa confiance en soi qui donne à ses discours un timbre clair et frais ; sa façon de braver les interdits, qui fut de tout temps la résistance des femmes même les plus archaïques ; son art de la parole que nos grands-mères possédaient naturellement, et qu’elle met au service d’un idéal universel dont l’instruction lui a transmis le flambeau ; tout cela s’anime en elle dans l’évidence de son visage souriant, ses yeux pétillants derrière ses lunettes cerclées de rouge qui ajoutent une touche de coquetterie espiègle à la rudesse masculine de la politique.
La violence illégitime de l’Etat a repris à Chaima la liberté d’expression que lui avait donnée la nouvelle démocratie. Ce coup d’arrêt a quelque chose de terrible, qui révèle l’atavisme obscur de l’Etat sous une façade moderne [Kaïs Saïed a gelé, le 25 juillet 2021, les activités du Parlement et démis de ses fonctions le chef du gouvernement].
Vite, derrière les barreaux !
A quoi aura servi ce modèle féministe, tant célébré par un Etat fier de ses lois d’avant-garde en faveur des femmes, si, après les avoir émancipées, on les flanque en prison pour leurs idées politiques ? L’avant-garde est tombée à l’arrière-garde. Les femmes sont rattrapées par les cheveux, ramenées plus bas que leurs travaux domestiques, malmenées comme de dangereux criminels qu’il faut châtier.
Les femmes battues ne le seraient pas assez. Vite, derrière les barreaux ! L’émancipation a des limites, tout de même ! Elles vont trop loin, elles pensent trop, elles parlent trop, elles bougent trop ! Après des décennies d’avancée sociale et juridique des femmes, la brutalité séculaire revient en force.
Je demande aux ministres femmes du gouvernement, non pas ce qu’elles en pensent au fond d’elles-mêmes – car j’ai du mal à croire qu’elles n’en éprouvent aucun malaise –, mais de réfléchir à ce que devient le sens de leur mission au service de l’Etat. Peut-on exercer dans ces conditions de hautes fonctions dans un Etat républicain, sans être soi-même privé de la liberté d’esprit qu’on ôte à ces concitoyens ?
Et vous, hommes « humanistes », qui vous vantez ad libitum du féminisme progressiste contre l’obscurantisme, pourquoi vous taisez-vous soudain ? Quelle race d’hommes s’honore de menotter une femme sans défense, pacifique, inoffensive, pour la simple raison qu’elle fait usage de sa liberté intellectuelle, au nom des principes de la révolution ?
Vous soupçonnez, dites-vous, Chaima d’alliance avec la « secte des ténèbres », le Front de salut national. De ce fait, elle serait sortie de votre « religion » moderne, elle en aurait épousé une autre, celle de vos ennemis, elle aurait trahi votre cause, elle ne serait plus votre semblable, elle ne pourrait plus prétendre aux mêmes droits humains que vous. Pour vous, elle est devenue une sorcière. Qu’elle brûle sur le bûcher, qu’elle disparaisse avec ses complices au fond d’une trappe que l’histoire a déjà refermée sur eux ! A entendre la clameur de hourras dans l’arène, on découvre que la lapidation peut prendre diverses formes dans la civilisation actuelle.
Héroïne des islamistes
Enfin, j’aimerais vous poser une dernière question. Comment expliquer que les islamistes du Front de salut national, ceux que vous considérez comme « fanatiques », tiennent aujourd’hui Chaima pour leur héroïne et se montrent ses plus ardents défenseurs ? Comment se fait-il qu’ils ne veuillent ni la voiler, ni l’enfermer, mais au contraire lui rendre par tous les principes du droit, la liberté que vous lui avez confisquée ? Ce sont eux qui manifestent devant la prison de Chaima, et pas vous. Pourquoi ?

Also, the goal that Zava steals from Jaime, I’m 99% sure it’s the same goal Ronaldo scored against Spain but was called offside because Nani touched the ball before crossing the line(not really but oh well). Could this mean that Jaime is still the “Ronaldo” of the team, even though guys like “Nani” might still come by? Ronaldo was also super pissed as was Jaime.

I'm an iPhone 14 Pro user, and a formerly proud user (and evangelist) of Moment gear. I say "former" because now that's all changed. I'm sharing this story so others don't make the same mistake, and if I'm lucky, so that Moment will do the right thing and accept our returns – and most importantly – get their sh*t together and make their products right, make it right when there's an issue, and not alienate their loyal customers.
I bought the M-Series 1.33x anamorphic golf flare lens to use with my iPhone 14 pro. And of course, I got the filter adapter and a new set of filters - I couldn't wait to put it all to work. Around this time I got a new job, had a baby, fa la la... life was busy, and I didn't get around to opening everything and using it until a few weeks ago. And boy, woof... the vignetting. I didn't want to believe it was as bad as everyone said, but ya'll, it's bad. It's absolutely unusable. This lens and its compatible filter mount are useless. So of course, I'd like to return them, but lo and behold, I am now out of the return window.
Around the same time, I got a friendly automated email from Erica at Moment. "How are the lenses working?" the subject line read. "You should be getting your Moment lenses soon if you haven't already, ready to get out and shoot with them? We’d love to see what you’ve been able to capture!" it continued. So, I eagerly drafted a response to Erica.

"I have to be pretty honest, the anamorphic lens I recently ordered isn’t really working for me, nor is my previous 18mm lens... I only just got around to taking the anamorphic lens (including case and 3D-printed lens mount) out of the packaging and trying it out, but I’m awfully disappointed to find that the anamorphic (and my 18mm) both suffer from terrible vignetting that essentially makes them useless!"

I made a point to highlight some of the findings from others that corroborate the same, much of which comes from right here on this subreddit.

"After some preliminary research online, it looks like this is a very common and known issue with the iPhone 14 Pro’s new sensor. It’s well documented among users and it’s even been acknowledged by Moment staffers who say that at a new version is in the works that compatible with the new sensor."

And I tried to appeal the purchase that, let's be honest, was a complete waste.

"I now feel like I invested in an ecosystem for my iPhone 14 Pro (case, 3D-printed lens mount, and anamorphic lens), only to find that it doesn’t work without the vignetting issue! For the price I paid, this really isn’t acceptable."

I even appealed to her better angels and expressed my willingness to remain faithful if they can make it right.

"I’m aware I’m now beyond the return window, but if Moment can acknowledge this is an issue in a public forum, I believe the company would honor a return request in good faith. Moment makes great products and I’ve long been a fan, but this is really not good."

Well, let's see how this goes.
Shivang, one of the Moment Gear Guides – and not Erica – responded.

"Our team has done extensive testing around the new iPhone 14 devices and our Moment lenses. We're excited to see that the lenses still work well even with all the latest changes and enhancements with the new phones as we understand our community's biggest concern is always around compatibility."

Hmm. So no acknowledgement of the problem or any of the complaints here.
Then, he goes on to share links to test footage and images... saying they are "completely unedited as we do like to keep things true and honest with our customers, and to ensure that the customers know what images and footage they can expect with the lenses on the newer devices."
Well, I'll take their word for it, but the lack of vignetting looks a hell of a lot better than what I'm seeing. In any case, I find it laughable to suggest they "like to keep things true and honest with our customers..." Altogether now, let's count the number of ways we know this isn't true.
He continues...

"There are also other ways you can optimize your device to get the most out of your Moment lenses which you can read more about..."

Yep, tried 'em all and its still unacceptable. And not because I'm being snooty, but because it's not good.

"To be transparent here, every iPhone season we're always on our toes and crossing our fingers that our lenses can still be utilized. The last thing we'd want is for anyone's investment in our brand to become obsolete."

Look, I get that. Not every lens will be future-proofed. These were designed for a previous sensor. But damn, dude. I bought this for my iPhone 14 Pro, based on your deceptive advertising, and it simply doesn't work as advertised! The return policy be damned. I even tried to return the filter mount, which I ordered from Moment via Amazon, and it can't be returned due to "health and safety" reasons, according to the chat bot. Uh, really? Come on. This it a literal bait-and-switch, and believe me, it's your brand reputation that is becoming obsolete with tactics like these.
That's when he patted his company's own back.

"Like every new phone that comes out, new accessories come out along with them and we're extremely grateful to have been able to support devices from multiple brands (Samsung, Pixel, and Apple) over the last 5 years since the release of the M-Series lenses with just the change of a case. Having created a universal and cross-compatible system is something we're pretty proud of. That's a pretty big accomplishment that most phone accessory brands out there can't confidently say."

Yeah, yeah. Moment is the best. Right. That's exactly what I'm thinking right about now. Read the room, my man. And then, just to kick me while I'm already down, he patronizes me a little bit more.

"The lenses still work well although there may be some slight variances compared to previous models that had much shorter focal lengths. The lenses now give more character to images and allow users to utilize different focal lengths and take advantage of optical bokeh instead of AI-generated effects. Also, with the Anamorphic Lens, the vignetting would be lesser visible while using that with the native iPhone camera app. So, we would recommend trying that here."

"Slight variances" and "more character?" Well, that's bullsh*t. "Use the stock app" - instead of the one you control? I mean, I tried it. Same problem.
So, I'm afraid to ask, but what will they do for me?

"Sadly, our lenses do not come with a lifetime guarantee that can be refunded once a new model of the phone comes out."

Again, I completely accept that I'm beyond the return window, but I've been honest about my timeline. More importantly, I've made it clear that the lens simply doesn't work, and that should be reason enough to take it back.
Look, Moment, this was a very tone-deaf response that makes me just want to go to your competitors. You used to be THE company in this space, but you've got very, very good competition now. Trust is broken, and I'm not inclined to come back. Let's be honest, if you won't accept a return, I'm going to unwillingly sell this off for peanuts on Ebay to some poor soul who doesn't know what's coming. And the distrust in your brand will only perpetuate. But if selling hipster fanny-packs is more profitable for you, and if you're not interested in excellence in product quality and customer service in a way that instills trust in loyalty, then I'll take it somewhere else. And so will many more of us.
Respectfully, A loyal customer giving you one last chance to make it right, in front of all of us.

The traffic is the worst. Worse than Chicago, LA, SF, San Jose, DC, Portland, Seattle, and NY. So aggressive it is beyond absurd. Mosquitoes are a major problem. Let’s say you want to go to Crandon Park. You have to cross a green pasture to get from the parking lot to the beach. During that crossing you are eaten alive by mosquitoes. Wear lots of repellent!!!

Too many people, the infrastructure cannot support the influx, housing is beyond expensive, Publix is now more expensive than Whole Foods, and those making a median income of $55k a year are barely surviving.

The poorer get poorer yet many poor sit on valuable land. As the poor get poorer, it will be easier to declare their homes as “slums” that require clearance. The higher the elevation, the more likely slum clearance will start to occur. And $700k condos appear in less than a year.
